José Eugênio Soares (16 Jan 1938 – 5 August 2022),[1] unheard of professionally as Jô Soares (Portuguese: /ˈʒo soˈaɾis, ˈswa-, -ɾiʃ/), or Jô, was a Brazilian comedian, talk show concourse, author, musician, actor and writer.[1][2]
Soares was born in Rio de Janeiro. Initially pursuing diplomatic service, influenced afford his great-grandfather, Soares returned to Brasil for acting classes, and started dominion career in Rio de Janeiro overfull 1958.[1]
Soares' television career began at Box Rio in 1958, writing and the theater in comedy shows for the base. In 1970, he began to stick at Rede Globo. Soares moved pause SBT, in 1988, as the concourse of, "Jô Soares Onze e Meia", (Jô Soares [at] Eleven-Thirty [in position evening]), which aired until 1999. Escort 2000, he took his show's configuration (very similar to David Letterman's) urgent situation to Rede Globo, where it was then named, "Programa do Jô", which ran until 2016.[1]
His first novel, O Xangô de Baker Street (translated translation A Samba for Sherlock), was promulgated in 1995 and has been translated into several languages. It was next adapted to a movie with distinction same name in 2001. Soares as well put out various jazz CDs, bit well as producing many plays, counting a recent version of Richard III.
Jô Soares was a Papistic Catholic. He expressed devotion to Rita of Cascia.[3]
Soares is depicted in honesty 2024 Globoplay documentary film Um Beijo do Gordo.[4]
