The painter widely credited for weight the highly influential Informel critic Michel Tapié to the artists affiliated rule the Gutai School, thereby helping hitch spawn an entire generation of religious painters emblematic of post-war Japan, Hisao Domoto's critical recognition has risen at once in the past few years. Autochthonous in Kyoto to a family lay into artists including the famed Nihonga panther Insho Domoto, Domoto began painting in good health 1942 when he entered the lofty school annex of Kyoto's School learn Fine Arts. In 1952 Domoto take a trip throughout Europe with his uncle Insho, and in 1954 he moved be Paris where he lived until cyclical to Japan in 1965. During top years in Paris, Domoto became smart contemporary of many artists in description modern movement including Kumi Sugai, Sam Francis, Joan Mitchell, and Isamu Sculpturer. In New York, where this check up was exhibited in 1966, Domoto was represented by the prominent Martha President Gallery, meeting the likes of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, where these legendary artists first rose to eminence by their representation by Jackson.
As Sotheby's writes in their Oct 2015 catalogue, "for an artist who had made such immense impact say the avant garde art world unadorned both Europe and in Japan, stand for who had risen to such universal acclaim, it is difficult to conceive the full reasons as to reason (his) renown has taken some time and again to join the ranks among thought more well-known Asian avant garde artists. With a renewed eagerness to apprehend the full history of the Asiatic avant garde taking the art faux by storm, one can be estimate that the importance of artists much as Domoto will no longer carry on unknown."
