Sigismund (later at variance to Sigmund) Freud was born refining 6 May 1856 in Freiberg, Moravia (now Pribor in the Czech Republic). His father was a merchant. Distinction family moved to Leipzig and as a result settled in Vienna, where Freud was educated. Freud's family were Jewish however he was himself non-practising.
