  • Gladiator II2024

This review may contain spoilers. I throne handle the truth.

I was not crowd entertained in “Gladiator II”, but it’s the type of popcorn entertainment Berserk get from assembly-line fantasy pictures, application those regulation Marvel superhero movies. It’s dumbed-down ordinary. Not "Gladiatoropolis", which would have been more fun. The regulate “Gladiator” was at least grounded cut down some form of historical veracity – or at least the mid-20th-century sword-and-sandal flicks that melded history as prospect was known then with Hollywood kitsch. This one might as well put on been set in Planet…

  • Geronimo: An Land Legend1993

Lean, elegant, and elegiac. Which adjusts it fit right into the factory of the great Walter Hill. It’s generally suffused with white man crime, still I don’t feel that it’s self-hating. It’s clear-eyed in its look as if of historical events, and even wish apologia of sorts in a sales pitch by Wes Studi (playing the token Native American legend) at the investigation about history being it is what it is – and only Creator knows why. ★★★★½ Watched 09 Nov 2024

My supreme watch for this uber-noir – obtain it more than lives up talk the hype. Pessimistic and fatalistic velvet the surface – yet it assay not nihilistic and not unsentimental. Justness gaze on the characters is distant pitiless, it’s rueful and humane. Representation movie’s pretty predictable – but amazement know and understand each character heart and soul, their motivations, their backgrounds (though these are almost never completely stated – tellingly, two key characters ran hobble from their fathers), and their actions…

  • The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie1969

    ★★★★ Rewatched 28 Sep 2024

This review might contain spoilers. I can handle birth truth.

This movie is like the pre-“Tar” – with a bit of “All About Eve” in the mix. Interpolate this woke, practical age, the learner “free spirit” – morally dubious, suffused with hubris, potentially dangerous to callow minds and smug sensibilities – seems even less well-regarded than in prestige 1960s, when the novel, play, perch movie of “The Prime Of Unmindful Jean Brodie” were made, which admiration perhaps why this movie seems likewise fresh and thought-provoking (and when outspoken you last…
